Library Visits!

In the next few weeks all four of my language arts classes will be walking to the Summerside Library for a visit/tour. Below is the schedule.

Friday, June 5th
Language Arts 9-5 (3rd and 4th period). This is a double L.A. Second class is a band class.
Language Arts 8-1 (5th period) Band period. This may run into 6th period?

Tuesday, June 9th
Language Arts 8-5(3rd and 4th period). This is a double L.A. Second class is a band class.

Thursday, June 11
Language Arts 9-1 (2nd period) This may run into 3rd period?

CHANGE IN DATE! Final Reading Ladder - Grade 8 & 9

Below is the link to my final reading ladder. Please note: I included all the books I read this school year. Students only need to include books read in the final term. If students wish they can include all books read this school year.

Part 2: Due Date: Friday, June 12th      DUE: TUESDAY, JUNE 16th
Complete a reading ladder of all the books you read in the 14 week period(3rd term).

Include:
-       Book titles you read this term.

-       What was your favorite book you read this term? Why?

-       Discuss whether or not you achieved your reading goal this term and how you did it.

-       How have you changed as a reader this school year?

Grade 8 & 9: Final Reading Ladders



This week students were given the details of the final reading ladder assignment.  Please note there are two parts(videos) to complete. The first video is due Wednesday, May 20th and the final video is due Friday, June 12. Videos or links to videos can be emailed to: sxballum@edu.ca.pe 

Please let me know if you or your child have any questions.  

Part 1: Due Date: Wednesday, May 20th
Complete a video book review.
Include the following:
-       Author
-       Title
-       Genre (fiction or non-fiction) and specific category (ie: Biography or Fantasy).
-       A summary that discusses characters or people, setting and plot (Without revealing the ending)
-       Who would you recommend this book to? What is your opinion of it?
Part 2: Due Date: Friday, June 12th

Grade 9's

Forbidden City novel test - Thursday, May 7th. Students may use their novels during the test and are encouraged to provide evidence(examples, quotations) from the text when answering questions.

Updates!

Grade 8's have finished reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and in the next few weeks will be studying the themes and characters more closely.

Poster(Sketch to Stretch) is due Tuesday, May 5th.

Letters to the Editor are overdue! Please hand in or email to me asap.

Grade 9's are exploring the setting and themes introduced in the novel Forbidden City by William Bell. Sketch to Stretch posters are due Friday, May 8th.

Grade 9's

Persuasive essays are due Wednesday, April 8th. Students may email me their final copy or hand in a paper copy.

As always students are encouraged to pass in drafts beforehand so I can make suggestions.
